This is where the Chief continuous flow dryer comes into its own. As well as being clad and insulated for efficiency, it is also very clean. This was one of the deciding factors for the customer.</p> <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">The area proposed for the new Chief Dryer was limited and Chief worked with the customer to provide the most cost effective solution.</p> <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">Chief provided all the layout/detail drawings as well as all the foundation drawings necessary to enable a local contractor to prepare the foundations.</p> <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">The system is designed to be as flexible as possible, with a new above ground intake pit, to hold 2-3 trailers of cereals. To help keep the site as clean as possible, a Chief model CD 60 Aspiration Unit has been integrated into the system before the cereals pass through the dryer to remove the light trash, dust and small grains.<br />An overflow system is fitted back to the intake pit, and the dry grain can then be transported to either of two grain stores via a series of conveyors, elevators and diverter valves.</p> <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">The whole system is operated from the main dryer touch screen control panel, with custom made software to run all machinery within the system. An internet connection has also been installed, allowing remote monitoring and control.</p> <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">Chief Industries supplied and manufactured the dryer, a model CD 4/48 rated at 27 tph input based on grain, which utilises 2x Weishaupt kerosene burners. These burners have the flexibility of being able to run on diesel oil as well, if required.<br />Chief Industries also manufactured the model CD 60 Aspiration Unit, rated at 60tph based on wheat.<br />Guttridge Services Ltd, whom Chief have a close relationship with, provided all the necessary mechanical handling equipment for the project. [alias] => gl-boulden-and-sons-farm [link_attributes] => [published] => 1 [pub_date] => 0 [unpub_date] => 0 [parent] => 1054 [isfolder] => 0 [introtext] => [content] => <p>GL Boulden &amp; Sons farm some 2,900 acres (1,175 hectares) in the Romney Marsh area of Kent.</p> <p>A fire destroyed an old curved roof barn leaving the farm with no grain handling or storage.</p> <p>This left the Boulden’s with no dryer and decreased capacity in a market place which was demanding good quality grain, dried to meet a tight specification, and longer term storage.  A big challenge had come to this family farming business!</p> <p>A long and detailed process was then undertaken with Ashford Borough council and conservation officers, the parish council and the parochial church council, to produce a scheme which would meet the Boulden's needs and be commensurate with the location adjacent to the church, which is also adjacent to an important grade 1, thousand year old, archaeological site.</p> <p>With a long established team of Weald Agriculture, Rural Partners, &amp; Chief Industries UK- Simon Kenny negotiated his way through the many demands and requirements of such a site to obtain planning permission for the Boulden’s.</p> <p>With Chief’s wide range of dryer features &amp; functions, a high performance continuous dryer with sound attenuation and touch screen control technology was shoe horned into the bespoke new barn.</p> <p>In the following demanding harvests the patience and attention to detail has paid off handsomely, with the installation of a new intake, high capacity dryer and bulk store with in-floor aeration, all within a striking new building, which sits in its special environment very satisfactorily.</p> <p>There are many aspects to consider when installing new grain drying and storage facilities.
